Empowering Faster Decision-Making with Real-Time qPCR Analysis

Challenge

An agricultural technology company aimed to develop, validate, and streamline a qPCR-based crop assay to enhance crop health and yield. The assay was a critical component of the company’s internal R&D platform, designed to serve multiple teams with fast, reliable data to drive decision-making. However, their existing analysis pipeline was inefficient. Without a dedicated bioinformatician, the team resorted to using sub-par methods to derive partial results, which created bottlenecks, slowed research progress, and failed to meet internal teams’ expectations for faster turnaround times.

Action

DA consultants partnered with the assay development team from the very beginning, contributing to methods development for the analysis and laying the groundwork for the project’s success. The collaboration focused on creating a streamlined, scalable solution:

  • Developed a robust analysis strategy with clear data visualizations, enabling accurate interpretation of results.
  • Supported internal assay validation by contributing to experiment design, calculating statistics and creating visualizations to ensure reliability and build confidence in the assay’s performance across diverse applications.
  • Conducted tailored analyses for field studies and growth chamber experiments, adapting to specific project needs.
  • Collaborated with software developers to design and implement an in-house analysis app, reducing processing time from one week to real-time and enabling scientists to analyze data independently. This innovation empowered scientists to independently analyze data, significantly improving turnaround times and resource allocation.

Result

The partnership transformed the company’s internal qPCR assay platform into a high-efficiency tool. Processing time was reduced from one week to real-time, enabling faster decision-making and freeing scientists to focus on critical tasks. Through optimization of the assay, the company’s platform team was able to better serve its internal stakeholders, meeting tighter turnaround expectations and driving progress across multiple projects. The result was a more agile and efficient R&D environment, accelerating efforts to improve crop health and yield.
